Tour of Sri Lanka 2025 | Day 21 | Anuradhapura – Jaffna | 239 kms
I departed the city after 9am for Jaffna, aiming to reach the northernmost point of Sri Lanka. I started driving around 10:30am, covering nearly 200km. After thanking the hostel owner for the comfortable stay and taking a photo, I said goodbye to Blanca.

From there, it’s a straight road towards Jaffna. On the way, after like riding for 100kms, I stop for a late breakfast and post that continue riding in the north direction. The weather is all cloudy but no sign of rain. The railway track runs parallel to the toad. The lush green vegetation gives way to small shrubs and mangroves and basically, the land is inhibited for miles.

I can see some salt factories along the way and some water logged fields. Sometimes, it drizzles for a minute or two and then it disappears. I first go to ‘Point Pedro’ marker, where the plaque stands for the ‘Most Northernmost point of Sri Lanka’. Finding it takes some time as I keep going back and forth between 3 different markers. I finally find the one which I am looking for which is near the lighthouse.

The wind coming from the sea side is at full force and it’s so strong that my bike starts to drift one side. I transfer my weight to the opposite so as to not fall down. The palms and the trees are having a tough time. The waves are rough and are emptying on the road. I book my hostel and make my way there, leaving the coastal side.

Enough of the strong winds which had brought some amount of rain too. The hostel is around 40kms from ‘Point Pedro’. I reach around 4:30pm and check in. Room is on 2nd floor. I get ready and use local taxi to visit nearby places. I visit the Nallur Kandasamy Temple and Jaffna fort before making my way walking to the hostel.

A local guy staying in my room suggests me a good restaurant for the Dinner. He says the Jaffna Crab curry is not to be missed here and so, following his advise, I visit the ‘Green Grass Hotel’. The hotel lives upto it’s expectations. The ‘Crab Curry’ is just out of the world, spicy, just like how I wanted it. They serve along with ‘Pittu’, their local alternative to Rice.

After a full meal, I take bike taxi to hostel for a good night’s sleep as I have a long way to go tomorrow to Colombo.
